Beyond Limits
Project Goal
$35,000.00

Description of the problem:

People with disabilities are an invisible nation comprising almost 20% of the population.  For all of history, the blind and the lame have been seen as “objects of pity, fear or derision”, rather than simply as other people expressing a different range of human experiences.  To change this perception requires new ideas and images.  People with disabilities are facing a diversity issue, not a health issue.  Current coverage of people with disability is analogous to past coverage of the African American, Hispanic and gay communities.

Since visibility and communication are crucial for groups attempting to join the mainstream of society, people with disabilities need media vehicles that present them in their human complexity and give voice to their lives.

People with disabilities must be seen not only as a community of interest, but also as an emerging market opportunity.  As the disability community gains recognition as a distinct demographic group, its market power will grow.  Media presence is a critical tool in this development.

Description of the project/solution:

No Limits Media (NLM) is developing a half hour television show entitled “BEYOND LIMITS”, a weekly magazine which exposes audiences to the value and excitement that people with disabilities bring to business, the professions, athletics and the arts.

Amount that Channel G seeks to raise in order to help the organization achieve its goals:

No Limits Media needs $455,000 to produce a 13 week pilot season.  Channel G seeks to fundraise $35,000 to produce one episode of the pilot season.

Other support needed by the project:

Broadcast quality video cameras, DV video decks, computer based non linear editing and specialized computer and graphics services are needed.  Also, professional production services are required before equipment would be of real benefit.
