What People Are Saying About Channel G

Channel G combines the mission of social change with the power of the media. It is a breakthrough for television, providing unique, valuable, and vital messages. It is a giant step for critically important domestic and global projects that will finally have a media vehicle dedicated to promoting their fundraising efforts. Never has the word “promotion” taken on such a positive, meaningful definition. Never before has there been an opportunity to take these stories of our people and our world to our people and our world through the mainstream media.

Channel G is an idea that has been waiting to happen for decades. Why someone hasn't taken advantage of using television to raise money for worthy, forward thinking non-profits is a mystery to me. My deep appreciation to Atom and his team for creating one the most exciting new fundraising efforts I have seen.

What has gotten me so excited about Channel G is the shear potential of it to change the way philanthropy is done and by whom it's done– to democratize participation by engaging a much broader range of donors in a brave new way. The idea that we may be able to bring in a new wave of civic philanthropists from across the country utilizing popular media is powerful. Channel G plans to get beyond preaching to the converted to tap a massive market that traditionally has remained on the sidelines. If it succeeds in an even a modest way it will change the face of philanthropy in this country, putting it at everyone's fingertips and on everyone's mind.

The Threshold Foundation's New Visions grants committee awarded Channel G our largest single grant this year. Committee members joked that Channel G is the "poster child" for New Visions. As co-chair of New Visions I put it this way, "we see a lot of very worthwhile, but incremental, projects where a certain amount of money will yield a certain incremental benefit. With Channel G it is like placing a bet on a high stakes game, if it works, we could see a tremendous benefit for the relatively small amount invested".   New Visions is betting on Channel G.
