Sea Shepherd Conservation Society - Whale
Description of the problem:Every year in defiance of international laws and regulations the Japanese whaling fleet illegally slaughters approximately a 1000 whales in the Antarctic whale sanctuary. In addition to sperm whales they target the endangered humpback and fin whales. Sea Shepherd is the only organization in the world with the will to directly intervene in order to enforce international conservation laws and regulations already on the books. Description of the project/solution:Sea Shepherd is seeking funding in order to purchase a newer ship so that we can go back down to the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary and Defend the gentle giants that are being slaughtered for profit. The oceans are dying in our time and we will not stand by while this happens. We as an organization will enforce the U.N. Charter for Nature, which gives us the authority to intervene in this extremely cruel and horrific practice. Last year we were successful in saving 85 whales, but our ship was unable to keep up with them for more than 15 days. This year with a faster ship we plan on shutting down the illegal killing of whales in the sanctuary for good. Amount that Channel G seeks to raise in order to help the organization achieve its goals:$25,000 – this money will be used to support the Sea Shepherd ships on Campaign in the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary. |
